Law enforcement agents have beefed up security in Kano metropolis, following a protest by some youths on Monday over the withdrawal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Correspondent who went round the city?on Tuesday morning, reports that armed policemen had been drafted to strategic places to monitor the movement of people to prevent a possible break down of law and order.
Policemen were seen in vehicles patrolling some of the major streets.
It was also observed that security had been tightened at the major entrance of the commercial city?as all vehicles?were subjected to thorough checks.
Meanwhile, policemen early on Tuesday, dispersed some youths who attempted to hold another rally at Kofar Danagundi quarters in the?metropolis.
An eye-witness, who pleaded anonymity, said, that the youths who had gathered?in their hundreds, were dispersed by policemen around 8:30 a.m.
When contacted, ASP Magaji Majiya,?the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Police Command,?who confirmed the development, however, declined further comments.
