The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed two friendly matches in preparation for the February 29, Nations Cup qualifier battle against the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali.
Scribe of the federation, Musa Amadu said the football ruling house has set out January 11 and 14 as dates for the two international friendlies for the national team ahead of the Rwanda clash. “We shall be facing Angola by January 11 and Liberia by January 14, venues for both encounters will be released in due course.” Amadu said.
This has discountenanced speculations that Nigeria will not play any international friendly ahead of its 2013 Nations Cup qualifier against the Rwandese.
Meanwhile the technical crew of the Super Eagles at the weekend began shooting lessons for the team, in a bid to sharpen its scoring abilities. The team managed to score only once in each of its last three friendly games. The man who took charge of the first step of accurate shooting lessons was assistant coach, Dan Amokachi. Head Coach, Stephen Keshi also took the players round a special lesson in the area of shooting in yesterday’s training.
In line with its rebuilding agenda, the Super Eagles will play Makurdi giants Lobi Stars on thursday. “It’s part of the rebuilding process. We want to ensure that our team is in proper and strong shape before the internationals, including friendlies and qualifiers, that is why we want to test them against the best in Nigeria, before we step out,” revealed Team Coordinator, Emmanuel Atta.
