Ajimobi Constitutes Inter-Religious Council

Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, yesterday led a prayer session for the New Year, even as he announced the constitution of the State Inter-Religious Council as a proactive measure aimed at guaranteeing religious harmony, peaceful co-existence and security in the state.

The governor, who said that the council would be inaugurated before the end of the week, would consist of representatives of Muslims, Christians and security agents as well as those of Yoruba, Hausa and Ibo communities.

“This is a proactive government. We plan ahead of incidences. In this respect, we hear of Boko Haram here and there. We have constituted an inter-religious council as a proactive measure against security threats,’’ he said.

Ajimobi also said that the state Security Trust Fund would be inaugurated before the end of the month through which the government and the private sector would collaborate to provide necessary resources for the operations of security agencies in the state.

He also said that his administration had been able to ensure that the people of the state celebrated the Christmas and New Year festivities without any incidence of armed robbery and violence which had been the lot of the state in a long while.
