Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and religious leaders in the state have called on Nigerians, irrespective of their religious persuasions, to embrace peace, love and live together in peace and unity.
They made this call yesterday at an open-air Inter-Religious Thanksgiving Service to mark the New Year at the Government House grounds, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The service, the first of its kind in the state, was attended by top government officials, religious leaders, traditional leaders, public servants and members of the public and featured prayers for the state and the country by Christian and Muslim clerics.
In a sermon delivered by the Methodist Bishop of Ifaki Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Sunday Aluko, noted that Nigeria is in dire need of peace as its peace is being disturbed by the increase wave of terrorist attacks by members of the Boko Haram sect.
He maintained that anarchy would affect the nation’s march towards its desired development urging political leaders to be just and rule with the fear of God.
