The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has retired two of its senior staff as it also absolved four others from wrong doing following an in-house probe into activities of some of its staff members.
INEC said that the move was premised on its continued effort to reposition and re-organise the Commission.
In December, the commission carried out a similar purge retired six of its officers comprising: two Electoral Officers (E.O.s), two Assistant Directors and two Chief Administrative Officers following sundry disciplinary reports against them. The affected officers until their retirement had served in the Commission’s Edo, Kwara, Zamfara, Imo and Osun State offices respectively.
A statement from INEC’s Director, Public Affairs, Emmanuel Umenger, disclosed that yesterday’s disciplinary action was a follow up to a meeting of the commission held on December 23, 2011.
“According to the Commission’s Decision Extract dated Friday, December 23, 2011, those who were retired are: a Head of Department in the Imo State office and a Principal Legal Officer in the FCT office.
