The Kaduna State branch of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and its sister body, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), yesterday directed all its members in the state and in the Local Government Areas (LGAs) to come out en masse against what they described as a “wicked and malicious” policy against the Nigerian masses.
Through this statement, the leadership of the organized labour have defied the warning of the State Police Command which had ordered all civil society groups to stop any mass rally as such could undermine the peaceful nature of the state.
The state Police Commissioner, Ballah Magaji Nasarwa, had last Wednesday warned that the Police would arrest and prosecute anyone or group that organised any form of street protest against removal of fuel subsidy following the peculiar security challenges of the state.
The chairman of the State chapter of the NLC, Comrade Adamu Ango, who spoke for the two unions at a press conference in his office, said: “We are standing by the resolution reached by our national bodies Wednesday in Abuja. Subsequently, all workers in the state are to shut down their offices, shops, schools, filing stations and all transport services must stop providing services.”
