Barely two weeks after some explosives detonated in Mubi, a commercial town in Adamawa State, unknown gunmen struck again, killing over 13 people and injuring others in different attacks.
An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that the first incident took place on Thursday evening at a relaxation joint known as Goodwill, located at the heart of Mubi town. He said the gunmen, who operated on a motorcycle, stormed the joint and opened fire on the people, killing two in the process and injuring three others, and escaped to an unknown destination before the arrival of the police to the scene.
Gunmen, yesterday afternoon, also struck at Anguwan Yelwa in Mubi town and killed over 13 people, according to an eyeswitness. Confirming the incident to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND in her office, the police public relations officer in the state, Altine Daniel said she could not ascertain the actual number of those that were killed. She, however, assured that the police were doing everything possible to track down the perpetrators of the act and bring them to book.
The police image-maker appealed to the general public to always be security-conscious and come forward with relevant information on time in order to enable the police to intervene quickly. Recently, Adamawa State has been battling with security challenges, leading to increasing fears among residents.
Meanwhile, the United States of America embassy in Abuja yesterday warned its citizens to stay clear of the planned protest by labour that is billed to commence Monday.
The warning, which was posted in the US embassy website, urged its citizens either visiting or residing in Nigeria to also stock foodstuff and other necessities.
The statement said that the warning became necessary as there “is the potential that some events may become confrontational and escalate suddenly into violence”.
