Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and her counterpart in the Ministry of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke, have been asked to resign their appointments with immediate effect following their roles in the withdrawal of fuel subsidy.
The call was made yesterday in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital by protesters who came together under the aegis of Ekiti Collectives and stormed the governor’s office to register their displeasure on the development.
The protesters, led by coordinators of the Movement for the Emancipation of Nigerian Students and Youth Coalition of Nigeria, Tope Idowu and Olalekan Soyombo respectively, said that the removal had made nonsense of the country’s democracy.
Some of the placards displayed by the groups, which comprised of market men and women, okada riders, students, among others read: “Nigerian Masses, Reject Removal of Fuel Subsidy; President Goodluck Jonathan Hates Development; Nigerians, Reject President Goodluck Jonathan and His Ruling.”
