Fuel Subsidy: Motorists Desert Sokoto Intra-Roads

?
The recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal government is biting harder in Sokoto state as motorists are gradually deserting the ever-busy major inter-roads of the state capital.

Our correspondent observed that high cost of petroleum has reduced the high volume of vehicles in some of the major roads within the state, leaving only few commercial and official vehicles plying the ever-busy? intra-roads like Bello Way, Kano and Maiduguri roads with very few of private cars.

However, there are only two filling stations namely; NNPC mega station along Gusau Road and Total Filling state along Ahmadu Bello Way, dispensing PMS at the official price of N138 and N140.5 per litre respectively in the state capital.

Some of the motorists however, frowned at the attitude of some independent marketers in the state for allegedly hoarding the commodity at this critical moment while commending the owner of servicing stations, Alhaji Ibrahim Adiya for his patriotism.

As a result of this development, commercial motorcyclists popularly called ‘Okada riders’ now charge not less than N50 per drop within a few meters, instead of the previous N20 while transport fare of Sokoto to Bodinga, a suburb of the state capital with less than 15 minutes drive has moved up to N300 as against the old fare of between N100 to N150.
