The Chairman, Traders Association of Mile 12 Market, Ketu, Lagos, Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, has warned that his members may?increase the prices of foodstuffs and farm produce if government does not restore the subsidy on petrol.
Mohammed?gave the warning?in an interview with some reporters at the market in Lagos on Tuesday.
Haruna explained that the association had already asked its members not to bring farm produce and foodstuffs to Lagos markets throughout the duration of the ongoing protest.
He said that the association had a stake in the restoration of the subsidy, “because our members have been incurring losses in bringing farm produce and foodstuffs to Lagos since Jan. 1.
“We have instructed our members to stop bringing farm produce and foodstuffs to Lagos because the association will not allow them to sell them during the ongoing protest.
“We are, therefore, in total support of Organised Labour and the Civil Society groups, and we want the Federal Government to immediately reverse the pump price of petrol to N65 per litre,”?Mohammed said.
The traders’ chairman said that the activities of his members were being “seriously hampered” by the removal of the subsidy, saying that they have been operating at a loss since Jan. 1.
Mohammed?said that the market would, therefore, remain shut throughout the duration of the protest.
“But our only fear for now is that the area boys may use the opportunity of the protests to take over our market,” he added
