Thousands of protesters took to the streets at virtually all major towns and cities in Jigawa State to demonstrate their disapproval of the removal of fuel subsidy by federal government.
They also expressed their displeasure with the State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido over what they perceived as his unpopular support for the policy.
The peaceful demonstration called by Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, received unprecedented support from the people of Jigawa State as all shops, markets, roads, filing stations, banks and public offices were shut down.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the protesters who were angry with the Federal Government’s stand on the issue also denounced Governor Lamido’s support for the policy because it did not represent the interest of the masses.
Speaking to the protesters gathered at Aminu Kano triangle, Dutse, the State chairman of the NLC, Comrade Suleiman Adamu Kiyawa urged the president to address the crucial issues bedevilling the country first instead of throwing the country into an unnecessary debate and socio-economic turmoil through the ill timed fuel subsidy removal.
