The Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HOS), Alhaji Isa Bello Sali, has appealed to civil servants in the country to return to their normal duties.
This was contained in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Abuja yesterday in which he observed that “the government has noted the inability of many officers to get to their offices due to transportation problems and has therefore demanded all permanent secretaries to provide staff buses to facilitate easy movement of staff from various points in Abuja to their respective offices.”
Accordingly, he enjoined all workers to take advantage of this directive to enable them resume duties,? adding that “the presence of security men around the? various Federal Secretariat was meant to ensure their safety,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the HOS yesterday announced plans to introduce a centralized commuter bus service for civil servants in Abuja to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
Sali told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the gesture was to ease the transportation problems of civil servants and reduce their financial burden.
“The plan is to latch on to the mass transport scheme recently inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan as part of measures to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians,’’ he said
On his directive to civil servants to report to work as the nationwide strike called by the organised labour entered its second day, Sali said arrangements had been made to convey them to work daily free of charge.
He said that buses had been provided to pick them up at designated routes.
