As the? strike by the organized labour? enters day two, a coalition of Niger Delta Youths, yesterday, joined other Nigerians to speak against the removal of fuel subsidy by President Goodluck Jonathan.? They warned that failure? to revert to N65 per liter of fuel, could force them to go back to the creeks and shut down oil facilities in the area.
The coalition comprising of,? Ijaws ,? Itskiris, Urhobos, Isokos and the Ibo speaking part of Delta State, gathered in their thousands in Warri and staged a peaceful protest.
The Leader of the Niger Delta Youth Coalition, Chief Michael Johnny, said they were against the removal of fuel subsidy because the President left some teething security issues? to be pursuing policies that would bring hardship upon the citizenry of this country.
“What we are saying is no to fuel subsidy removal. The reason why we are saying no to fuel subsidy is that Nigerians were not part of this decision. The economy is bad.? You cannot say removal of fuel subsidy is to help the poor and it is the poor people that are suffering it.”
