The Nigerian Army, yesterday, said that it was ready to combat Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in the country with modern hi-tec equipment even as it urged Nigerians to ignore text messages asking them to relocate for security reasons.
Briefing journalists at the National Army Headquarters, Abuja, the Director, Army Public Relations, (DAPR) Major General Raphael Isa, reeled out a list of successes recorded by the military against the sect including some ongoing training activities aimed at caging the menace of terrorism in the country.
He said, “Those who parade themselves as Boko Haram have not been given any breathing space as could be seen in their search for new operational grounds or abode. You may also recall that the situation in Niger Delta has also been brought under control.
“It is noteworthy to mention at this point that training in counter-terrorist and counter-insurgency operations have been intensified and troops are now deployed for such missions. Additionally, troops continue to patrol major highways and towns complementing the efforts of already existing task forces.”
Speaking further, he said that some troops were receiving training at the Counter-terrorist and Insurgency Centre, Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, and added that “on completion, these officers and soldiers will be deployed to further beef up the security arrangement in areas threatened by activities of terrorists.”
