Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have appealed to the federal government and organised labour to come to an agreement in order to bring to an end the ongoing nationwide strike.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP at the Wuse Market, a trader who identified himself as Obinna, lamented that even though most of them were initially in support of the strike
it had began to affect the traders negatively.
He pleaded with the federal government to listen to the yearnings of
Nigerians and suspend the removal of fuel subsidy, so that the nationwide strike would be called off.
“We are not enjoying this strike at all; President Goodluck Jonathan should help us by suspending this removal of subsidy, so that the strike would be called off. Nigerians are suffering, we beg our President to reconsider his stand,” he said.
A civil servant, Agatha also lamented that since the commencement of the nationwide strike, things had been difficult for her and her family.
She said, “For us to survive has been challenging, there is no money to collect
from ATM machines because banks are not working. Things in the market
have all gone up and presently there is no money to buy what you need.
“FG and labour should please resolve this strike issue fast for us to start our lives afresh. We are all in support of the subsidy removal but it should be done with utmost preparation for common Nigerians.”
Bawa Audu, a motorist said that since the strike commenced, business had been slow as there were no passengers adding that he had been unable to recover the money used to fill his tank.
He further stated that due to this, it had become difficult for him to fend for his family and called on the parties involved to go back to the negotiation table and find lasting solution to the problem.
