The newly constituted board of Nasarawa United under the leadership of Isaac Danladi has vowed to return the club to the elite league. He said the club is poised to return to top flight football. The club which was relegated from the Nigeria Premier League in the 2008/2009 season when they finished second from bottom with 39 points also avoided further relegation from the Nigerian National League (NNL) to Amateur League last season and was close to being disbanded until Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura decided to put in place a new board to run the club.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP SPORTS through phone, the new chairman of the club, Isaac Danladi said his administration is committed to toeing a new line that will ensure that the Lafia based club return to its glorious era in Nigeria football. He stated that the state governor, Tanko Al Makura is determined to see Nasarawa United move back to the Premier League and compete among the top clubs in the country. “Our plan is to restore the team to its glorious days in Nigeria football. The government of Nasarawa State under the leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura is determined to help reposition the state’s football club as one of the best run professional club in the country,” he said.
He said to achieve the goal of returning to the top flight league, the club is presently in pre-season training camping in Jos ahead of the January 21 kickoff date of the Nigeria National League (NNL). “We are determined to return the club to the Premier League.
We have been to training tour in Kaduna and now we are in Jos for a pre-season training camp. Before the commencement of the new season on January 21, the team will play a warm-up match with JUTH FC and two other clubs to assess its level of preparation and fitness. We will also have to toe the line of professionalism in terms of the welfare of players and officials. The governor is a sports loving man and he considers the sector as a fertile ground for development, sustenance of peace and stability in the state,” he stated.
