President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Olawale James Ajani, has denied the purported endorsement of the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.
Ajani, in a statement he signed and made available to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND yesterday, refuted the press briefing organised by some executive of the council in support of the removal, saying the council was opposed to subsidy removal.
A faction of the council executive had, in a press conference, resolved to support government’s policy as it was convinced that it would help in revamping the various sectors of the economy and create employment for the Nigerian youth.
But Ajani said the youth would be the ones to suffer the brunt of the policy as this would bring untold hardship on the over 40 per cent unemployed youth in the country.
“It is not news that the ongoing protest against the removal of fuel subsidy in our nation is predominantly championed by the Nigerian youth.? This is because Nigerian youth bear the brunt more than anybody else.
