The, Commissioner of Police Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Mr. Michael Zuokumor, has disclosed that over 150 security operatives from the Police, Military, SSS and some paramilitary organisations are patrolling Abuja to guarantee safety of lives and property.
Zuokumor said yesterday in Abuja that the patrol, tagged “Operation Show of Force’’ was imperative to reassure the residents of the city of their security following various threat text messages.
Speaking to some traders and residents of the city at Area 1, Zuokumor urged them to disregard the messages and strive to live together as brothers and sisters.
The commissioner also urged them to do their best and contribute to the security of the territory and the country at large.
“Here, as you can see, there are some people from the North, South, East and West.
They are all brothers and sisters; they are all here together.
“They don’t have any problem but people are sending messages to people that they should fight, that people want to attack them. That is not true. We have a very good country, we have a good city, we must protect them,’’ he said.
Zuokumor advised the people to desist from re-transmitting the text messages to others in order not to create apprehension and panic.
In a statement on Friday, Zuokumor described the messages as rumours and series of unfounded, mischievous and misleading materials, saying that they should be disregarded.
The security operatives patrolled the city centre, Nyanya, Ggwagwalada and Mararaba in nearby Nasarawa.
