Alhaji Garba Haruna,? an Islamic cleric and chairman, Northern Traditional Council in Awka, has urged Muslims who fled Anambra to return, saying there was no threat to their lives.
Haruna, who is the Sarkin Hausawa of Awka Central Mosque, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Saturday.
He noted that Hausa Muslims who ran away from the state in the wake of the reported killings of some southerners in parts of the north, did so out of fear.
Haruna, while criticising the killing of Christians, said that the fear of reprisal attacks on Muslims in the state was misplaced and baseless.
He described Anambra as a very peaceful state, where people from other parts of the country had never been discriminated against or treated as strangers.
“As far as I am concerned, no Nigerian is a non-indigene in any part of the country and should not be treated or regarded as a stranger wherever he lives”, he said.
