Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, said yesterday that the security challenges facing the country emanated from the inability of the country’s security agencies to wake up from their slumber.
The governor also admonished the security personnel in Nigeria to advance peace in the country rather than being tempted to subvert the polity because of the security challenges facing the nation.
He said: “We are at that junction again when events in the political system will provide false attraction for adventurous soldiers. Of recent, there has been anxiety in the land borne of security challenges emanating from the incompetence of the security agencies. Currently, there is also disagreement between the civil society and government on policy choice which exacerbates the situation. All these could provide the pretext for military incursion into government.”
Aregbesola, who had earlier warned the political class in the country against inviting? military incursion into the governance of the nation, made this comment at the 2012 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at Ayetoro, Osogbo, Osun State.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, lauded the nation’s military for assisting other countries in the world, especially some Africa countries like Liberia and Sieria Leone, in restoring law and order, and said there was no amount of sacrifice that is too much for the military to pay in maintaining national peace.
He, however, lamented that despite the sacrifices made by the military personnel, many of them are still struggling to get their due, especially after retirement.
