Acting on presidential orders, the National Security Adviser (NSA) yesterday set up an investigation panel to probe the circumstances that led to the? escape of a suspected member of Boko Haram, Kabiru Sokoto from the hands of a team of police officers led by suspended Police Commissioner, Zakari Biu.
While the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hafiz Ringim had earlier in the week been queried by the Minister of Police affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade on the matter, the federal government also ordered the arrest of the suspended Police Commissioner, Biu and the officers who followed the suspect for the purported investigation mission.
The Police Affairs minister who disclosed the setting up of a probe panel after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the presidential villa, Abuja yesterday, said the probe panel has been given a time line of one week to conclude their investigation.
Speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting that was attended by the NSA and the IGP, Olubolade noted that the panel is made up of senior officers from the Nigerian Army, the police affairs ministry and other security agencies.
