Kano State Government has warned fuel marketers against creating artificial scarcity with a view to maximising profit at the expense of the people.
The government gave the warning on Thursday in a statement in Kano, issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Umar Faruk.
The warning is against the background of reports that most filling stations in the state had not resumed selling petrol after the Federal Government reduced the pump price of the product to N97 per litre.
The stations have remained closed with many claiming not to have stocks for sale.
The government said it had noted the attitude of some marketers, who were bent on causing artificial scarcity of petrol and pointed out that the “bulk of their stocks predated the new fuel price regime.
“It is against this background that the state government is calling on all the stakeholders to be considerate on the people’s plight by selling the commodity at the controlled price.
“The state government also noted with dismay how businessmen, hiding under the guise of fuel subsidy removal, indulge in charging exorbitant prices on their goods and services.”
Some motorists the state governments to intervention was necessary to save the situation.
They said most of the marketers were not sincere about the availability of fuel in their stations.
Mr Abba Mohammed, a motorist, urged the government to take stringent measures to compel fuel marketers to resume selling petrol at the approved pump price.?
