The Police in Akwa Ibom State yesterday paraded a man, 18, who was alleged to have broken into a church in Eket south? and stole the church’s? tithe.
Johnson Monday Umoetuk, a native of Idua Eket was arrested by the police for allegedly entering the room of the Superintending Pastor of Mount Zion Church in Eket and stole the sum of N5000 said to be the church’s tithe.
According to the police, the suspect has confessed to have robbed so many innocent people with his gang members on 31st December, 2011.
The police disclosed that they are on the trail of other fleeing members of his gang which include Micah Sunday, Edidiong, Otobe and Engboto.
The police also said that they have stopped a mass initiation of eight youths into a cult being sponsored by ‘some faceless groups’ with the intention to use them to carry out criminal activities in the state.
Parading the youths yesterday, before newsmen, the State Police Commissioner, Solomon Arase said? investigations revealed that some unnamed criminal syndicates were recruiting young men in the state with the? intention of unleashing them on the people.
