Zamfara State Police command has refuted media reports that it? received an order from the ruling All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP’s, government in the State to arrest some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP during the just concluded protest on oil subsidy removal.
Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the State Police commissioner, Alhaji Tambari Yabo Muhammad, also denied the reports credited to Daily Trust newspaper that during the protest, thugs removed Jonathan’s billboard and replaced it with Governor Yari’s in Maradun Local Government.
‘’I want to categorically make it clear that this never happened. President Goodluck Jonathan’s billboard was not where it was said to have been uprooted from. Therefore, I consider these reports as malicious, mischievous and a clear distortion of facts meant to mislead the public,’’ he said.
He then enjoined the press to make sure that only reports received from credible sources were published to maintain peace and the security in the society as everybody has a stake in maintaining law and order in the society.
About 17 persons were arrested during the protest and were immediately charged to court for their alleged involvement in the breach of public peace during the recent protest on fuel subsidy removal in Gusau.
