Police in Funtua local government area of Katsina State on Friday arrested a suspected armed robbery kingpin, Tasi’u Bommalli, who later died of gun shot injuries on their way to the hospital.
It will be recalled that the police on Monday during a gun battle shot and killed two suspected armed robbers who blocked the Funtua-Zaria Road.
Four other armed robbers fled with injuries and the police intensified search for them where Bommalli was trailed to a hut with gunshot injuries.
Bommalli died on the way to the Funtua General Hospital while the corpse was later dumped at the Funtua Central Police Station.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Katsina State Police Command, Ibrahim Abubakar, on Saturday confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was found inside a farm along Funtua-Zaria road.
Abubakar explained that the deceased sustained serious injuries from the Monday incident.
According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad, had also seen the corpse when he visited the station on Friday.
He said that search for others was also in progress, adding that the police was committed to a crime-free society.
Abubakar, therefore, urged residents of the state to always assist the police with useful information in order to make the state crime-free.
