Ten foreigners suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect have been arrested by the Benue State police command.
The suspects, who were arrested in various parts of Makurdi, were said to be staying in places that could not be easily identified.
The Benue State commissioner of police, Mr. John Haruna, could not however confirm if the suspects were linked to Boko Haram. He maintained that investigation on their mission in Benue was ongoing, but said that the command had received reports of alleged threats by the dreaded Islamic sect.
He called on the people of the state to go about their normal businesses, and urged them to report suspicious and strange movements to law enforcement agencies.
In the past two weeks, there have been speculations that some members of the sect were planning to bomb certain parts of Benue.
Before now, 14 of the sect members, alleged to have been sent to bomb some churches in Benue were said to have been arrested, but when approached for comment, the state police public relations officer, Mr. Alaribe Ejike, said there was nothing like that.
He, however, cautioned the people against spreading such rumour and described the situation in Benue as normal.
