Ahead of the Sokoto State governorship election, slated for March 10, 2012, there? is anxiety over the detention of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) state chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, and two of his party executive members.
They are held over allegations of instigating the recent anti-fuel subsidy removal protest in the state.
LEADERSHIP gathered that opposition’s camps are now jittery over his arrest and subsequent detention at the Sokoto Metropolitan Prison yard by a Sharia court last week, as some view the development as political persecution by the ruling party.
According to an ANPP chieftain who spoke on condition of anonymity, “We all know how PDP has been using security agencies to suppress our members in the state because it (PDP) is afraid of our political structures of late ahead of the governorship poll, but the electorate would surely decide few months to come.”
There are also unconfirmed report that some party supporters who are loyal to the detained politician are set to embark on a peaceful protest in the state to registered their dismay over what they view as his unjust incarceration.
