The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said it reviewed downwards its 2012 budget from N52billion in 2011 to N47.3billion to deal with the challenges facing the nation.
The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega stated this while defending his budget with the senate committee on INEC.
Also, Minister of communication and technology, Ms. Omobola Johnson disclosed that the ministry made a revenue of N940 million from sale of forms and issuance of licenses since its creation last July.
However, the revised budget proposal as presented by INEC has a total of N47,361,974,562.97 as against 2011 appropriation of N52,180,347,511.00.
They include the Personnel Cost of 14,308,525,816.67 as against N16,116,938,292 of the previous year, Overhead cost of N3,294,660,405.20 against N4,147,049,391 as well as recurrent budget, which was reduced from N24,801,481,540 to N18, 447, 164,572.30.
This comes with an increase in Capital budget of N7,114,878,288 to N11,311,623,768.80. The Commission had earlier drafted a proposal of N54,055,582,356.63, which was reversed to N47,361,974,562.97.
