?Alhaji Umaru Dembo, former minister of state for petroleum resources under the military regime of late General Sani Abacha yesterday told the? House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the investigation of the Subsidy that claims by government that the daily fuel consumption in Nigeria is 49 million litres is false.
Faulting the statistics, he argued that it was impossible for Nigeria to consume that much products, stating that there is “something wrong with the calculations and statistics of our daily consumption”.
He said, “If it were so, it means that we will have to be running at least one hundred thousand big tankers of petrol that carry 33,000 litres everyday and empty them at the filling stations around Nigeria and only to come back to the depot, jetties to refill for delivery the next day and everyday.
