The Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force Hafiz Ringim, on Tuesday morning, handed his resignation letter to President Goodluck Jonathan.
An inside source told LEADERSHIP that Ringim had made several attempts to hand in his resignation on Monday, but failed. He however tendered the resignation today.
Although details of the resignation is sketchy at the moment, it may not be unconnected to the recent escape of Boko Haram agent Kabiru Umar aka Kabiru Sokoto, from the police custody.
President Jonathan had handed a 24-hour ultimatum to the former Police Chief to fish out the escaped Boko Haram member or be sacked.
Meanwhile, ex-commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar is billed to take over from Ringim.
Dikko has served as commissioner of Police in Plateau, Kwara and Lagos states.
