Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, granted state pardon to a 75-year- old prisoner, Kayode Adeyemi and six others serving various jail terms in the state.
?The pardon, which was in commemoration of the governor's 54th birthday, was announced through the State’s Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, in line with Section 212 (2) of the 1999 constitution.
Amosun had visited the Ijebu-Ode, Abeokuta and Oba Prisons as part of activities to commemorate the day.
The governor also commuted the death sentences passed on Rashidi Yisau and Saburi Adebayo, to life imprisonment.
Four others prisoners who had exhibited good conduct while in incarceration were also released.
They are Monday Iheakpo and Semiu Afolabi, who were serving 10-year sentence each, as well as Ibrahim Yinusa and Olarenwaju John, who were on a three-year jail term. Ibrahim Yinusaand Olanrewaju John, Ibrahim Yinusaand Olanrewaju John,?? who
The governor charged the beneficiaries to be of good conduct and to integrate fully into the larger society.
Amosun bemoaned the deplorable conditions of the nation's prisons, saying the prison is supposed to be reformatory centres.
He appealed to Nigerians against stigmatising ex-convicts, adding: “they need love and understanding, we need to assist them in the process of integration”.
