The Network for Civil Society in Nigeria has commended the people of Adamawa for restoring order and normalcy after the recent shooting incident which led to the death of 30 persons in the state.
?Addressing a news conference on Wednesday in Yola, the National Coordinator of the network, Rev Onwubuya Breakforth, said that the network was satisfied with the level peace restored in the state after the disturbances.
Breakforth said that the network, comprising 125 organisations, had gone round 18 local government areas for an on-the-spot assessment of the level of normalcy across the state.
He said that the state was now conducive for the conduct of next month governorship election.
He urged members of the National Youth Corps engaged by INEC as ad-hoc staff for the on-coming election, but hitherto had fled the state, to return and participate fully in the election.
Breakforth also advised all accredited civil society organisations to deploy their officials to the state for the election.
“We urged all parents to encourage and allow their sons and daughters serving their fatherland (NYSC) in Adamawa State to return and join their colleagues, especially those trained as ad-hoc staff for the Adamawa gubernatorial election.
?“We urged all our colleagues-civil society organizations accredited by INEC for Adamawa governorship election and the election body INEC) to be courageous in deploying all their staff across the 21 LGAs because the efforts of all the security agencies in the state is enough to ensure their safety throughout the election period and beyond.”
He commended the police and other security agencies for maintaining peace in the state and called on? politicians in the state to ensure a hitch-free election.
?The Adamawa governorship election is scheduled to hold on Feb. 4.
