A Kaduna-based legal practitioner, Yahaya Mahmood (SAN) yesterday said the removal of Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, was not the end of the matter as he could not be solely responsible for recent tragic happenings across Nigeria.
In a chat with LEADERSHIP on the removal of the IG in Kaduna, Mahmood? said: “In view of consistent security threats and failure, so many well meaning Nigerians and groups have called for the overhauling of the security heads. Maybe the removal of the IG is only the beginning. The IG cannot be solely responsible for what happened in Kano, Bauchi and Bayelsa last week.”
He also advised federal government to dialogue with the Boko Haram members rather than using force, saying that “If late President Yar’adua should dialogue with and give Amnesty to Niger Delta Militants, I do not know why President Goodluck cannot dialogue with Boko Haram.
“What are local governments, traditional rulers and community/religious leaders for? Federal and state governments should direct security agencies to discuss with them to identify the members and find out what they want.
