Dickson Pledges To Review Yenagoa Masterplan

The Governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 11 election in Bayelsa, Chief Henry Dickson, on Thursday pledged to review the Yenagoa masterplan for the rapid development of the state capital.

Dickson, who spoke at Okolobiri during the commencement of his state-wide campaign rally for the Yenagoa Local Government Area, said the implementation of the existing masterplan was lopsided.

?According to him, the current status of Yenagoa is not befitting of a state capital, assuring that his restoration agenda for the people of the state will be for the total transformation of the state in every sector.

“PDP has re-invented itself in the state and through our campaigns we want to re-invent and create a new Bayelsa. In the new Bayelsa we all sought after, we will build new roads in Yenagoa, create new investments and infrastructure.

“We must create a new Yenagoa worthy to be called the capital of the state. We will also focus on education and human capacity development,” Dickson said.

The PDP flag bearer said that new primary schools and model boarding secondary schools would be built across the state, just as he disclosed that education would be made free and compulsory.

He said: “We will build new schools and train our teachers to achieve quality education for our children. Boarding schools, free and compulsory. We will conquer our so called difficult terrain and open new roads to Brass, Oporoma, Ekeremor, Agge and others.”

He said the campaign of calumny against his emergence as the PDP candidate and that of his running mate by those he described as “political enemies” would not undermine his determination to build a new all-embracing Bayelsa.

According to him, “the situation in our dear state is what I call arrested development or arrested destiny. No development is taking place in Bayelsa for now.

“The people are very desperate and because they know they have not done well, they are afraid. But with your prayers and support, a new dawn has come in Bayelsa.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Deacon James Dugo, who presented Dickson and John Jonah to the people of Yenagoa local council, said the party remained the only force to reckon with in the state.

He said the restoration team under Dickson, when elected would change the face of development in Bayelsa and called on the people of the state to vote massively for PDP during the election.

Also speaking, the Campaign Director of the 2012 Restoration Team, Chief Fred Agbedi, said the election was as good as won by the Dickson/Jonah ticket.

He said: “You remember that I was here in 2007 as the party chairman to present Gov. Sylva and he won the election. And now I say Go Sylva. In 2012, I am here again, I am a child of God

“This is the campaign to change the situation of underdevelopment in Bayelsa. I have come again to present? Seriake Dickson and retired Rear Admiral John Jonah for victory.”
