Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, yesterday, disclosed that as at December 2011,it earned N2billion as internally generated revenue and expressed its? determination to scale up the figure by blocking all leakages.
The Chairman of the Board,? Oseni Elamah,? who disclosed this? shortly after sealing off the Premises of the State branch of the National Museum located at the King’s Square for non remittance of taxes and other? levies accruable to the Edo State government.
Workers at the museum premises were prevented from gaining access into their offices by workers of the board of internal revenue.
Addressing newsmen, Elamah said that the board, in its effort to further fast tract development in the State will leave no stone unturned while collecting all revenues accruable to the State.
He said that all entreaties made by the board to the museum to remit revenues due to the State had been rebuffed and added that the premises will remain closed until all debts to the board were paid.
“It will interest you to know that all kind of activities takes place at that premises including the show Guinness plc had in December 2011 which attracted vending and ticketing and yet no kobo has been remitted to the State Government which is the landlord. We demand that all monies due the State government must be paid”
He also noted that the dividend of democracy and good governance in the State was as a result of the taxes been collected .
