Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, has urged the Federal Government to train the Police and position them to be able to handle the present day security challenges in the country.
The Governor, who said that changing the leadership of the police would not solve the problem of bombings in Nigeria stressed that the police should improve their information gathering techniques so as to be able to meet the security challenges in the country.
Speaking to Airport Correspondents in Lagos,Wednesday, the Governor said that the country was facing a new type of security challenge and the Police need to be properly trained to handle the problem.
Yari was speaking against the backdrop of the Federal Government’s removal of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafeez Ringim and replacing him with Mohammed Abubakar.
Yari also said Nigerian’s should support the police by giving them information that would help them solve security problems.
He said, “Personally, I want to say the removal of the Inspector General of Police will improve security in the country, but let the security men do their jobs most especially when it comes to the issue of intelligence gathering.
