A coalition of youth groups and women organisations in Kaduna, at the weekend, commended the Federal Government for appointing Mr. Mohammed D. Abubakar as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The youth groups said that now was the time for Nigerians irrespective of religion or tribe to rally round the new police boss so as to tackle the heightened insecurity in Nigeria headon.
They also appealed to religious groups, particularly the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to see reason and desist from acts and statements that could inflame passion at this time that even? President Goodluck Jonathan was seeking for dialogue.
Chairman of the coalition, Alhaji Habibu Alasure told newsmen shortly after their meeting that? they were unanimous in their decision to solicit support for the new IGP so that he would succeed in restoring the confidence of Nigerians on the police.
According to him, it was not easy for the government to pick a replacement for the out gone IGP, Hafiz Ringim because of the task ahead, pointing out that from information and records at their disposal, the new IGP was found to be qualified.
He said they had studied the comment of CAN and found out that it was not a true reflection of the view of all Christians as many among them were comfortable with the new police boss who had been a detribalised person and has the whole of Nigeria as his constituency.
