Former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Dr. Shem Nuhu Zagbayi and Coordinator of the North Central Town Hall Advocacy Meeting on the deregulation of downstream sector of the oil industry in Nigeria has said that the removal of subsidy on fuel was a bitter pill that would heal Nigeria of its economic woes.
The former Deputy Governor who was speaking at the town hall youths’ advocacy meeting yesterday in Minna maintained that in every healing process of any illness there was always the possibility of people taking bitter pills and therefore likened the removal of fuel subsidy to a healing process of the woes in the economy.
He said the need to address the subsidy questions had become imperative in view of the fact that the rich benefit more from subsidy more than the poor Nigerians, saying that the deregulation of the downstream sector would benefit the less privileged Nigerians more than the rich.
