As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) meets today to determine the implication of the verdict of the Supreme Court which sacked five governors last Friday, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, (PDP, Kogi Central) has commended the judiciary for living up to its responsibilities as the unbiased umpire in the administration of justice.
Reacting to the Supreme Court judgment on the case of extension of the tenure of five state governors, including Kogi State, the lawmaker maintained that the judgment was evidently another landmark in the annals of the judiciary.
The Apex Court had last Friday quashed the ruling of the lower courts, which had kept the five governors in office beyond the constitutionally allowed period.
A statement issued by Michael Jegede, Special Assistant on Media to Abatemi-Usman, quoted him as saying, “The judgment of the Supreme Court on the tenure elongation case would further reinforce the confidence that Nigerians repose in the judiciary as an unbiased empire.
