Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang has said that the State? provided the fund used for prospecting petroleum in the Niger-Delta region in the 1960s.
Governor Jang who stated this while receiving the Presidential Youth Committee on Deregulation of Downstream sector of the oil industry in Government House, Rayfield, Jos said that Plateau State had, “paid its due” for the country.
According to him, tin and columbite from Plateau State sustained the country’s economy in the 60s and 70s and called for ecological funds from the federal government to reduce the effects of the problems left by mining.
In his words: “ When this country became independent, Plateau province was feeding the entire national economy through tin and columbite mining.
