Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has inaugurated the State Security Appeal Fund committee, as part of measures to ensure that security agencies are adequately equipped to fight crime in the State.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Government House, yesterday, the Governor disclosed that the State was determined to look inward to find means to provide the modern gadgets needed by the security agencies to make them more effective in crime control.
He said, “We have complemented the Federal Government which has the responsibility to fund the security agencies in the past in the area of providing vehicles and gadgets, but there is a limit to which the State can go because the gadgets require huge resources”.
While appreciating President Goodluck Jonathan for allowing the armed forces to complement the police in the Operation Thunderstorm, Comrade Oshiomhole said that the level of crime in the country was unacceptable.
