NDLEA Nabs 261 People In Jigawa Over Illicit Drugs

Alhaji Ibrahim Abdu, the Jigawa Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said 261 suspects were arrested in 2011 with 110 kilogrammes of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.

Abdu disclosed this in an interview in Dutse on Wednesday.

He explained that 52 of the suspects had been prosecuted and convicted, while some other cases were still pending before the Federal High Court, Dutse.

The commander also said that within the period, 126 drug users and dealers were counseled at the command.

Abdu said that the agency had carried out series of enlightenment campaigns to educate people on the dangers of drug abuse.

He said that based on the figure of 2011, the level of drug abuse and trafficking in the state had reduced, when compared to the previous years.

The commander said he would not relent in his efforts to bring drug traffickers to face the law.

He enjoined the general public to assist the agency with useful information that could help in arresting those indulging in the use of illicit drugs.
