The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has said that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) under him will not tolerate corruption and lawlessness.
This is just as he described the year 2011 as a year of great challenge in the history of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) given the series of bomb attacks, kidnappings, and armed robberies that took place.
Abubakar made these comments during? the maiden meeting with senior officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) and above at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday.
Abubakar said, “It is an incontrovertible fact that discipline which is the bedrock for the force has been on steady decline for a while. In order to stem this tide, all machineries of discipline will be well oiled and empowered with a view of making them more responsive in all tiers of responsibilities.
“In order to reestablish sanity, corruption and corollary lawlessness by police officers will be no longer tolerated but effectively dealt with. This would be done by not only reinvigorating the corruption fighting machinery on ground but setting up new ones to check the excesses of all officers and men in the NPF.”
He maintained that there was no place in the force for, “any dishonest and undisciplined policeman anymore and this administration will get rid of misfits and undesirable members of the Police Force in this country irrespective of their ranks. It shall no more be business as usual again.”
