Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State on Saturday urged Muslim faithful to pray for peace, unity and economic growth of the state in particular and the nation in general.
Yakowa made the appeal at the 2012 Eid-el-Maulud worldwide annual annual celebration in Kaduna.
The Governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Islamic Matters, Sheikh Haliru Maraya, harped on the importance of the celebration, “which is to commemorate the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)''.
He, therefore, advised the faithful to emulate the teachings of the Holy Prophet and disengage from unholy practices which were not in consonance with? the tenets of Islam.
Yakowa also solicited for cooperation from all stakeholders to stabilise and unify members of various ethno-religious groups.
On his part, the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, stressed the need to offer prayers for sustainance of peace and unity, so as to enable the nation to overcome her socio-economic and political problems.
Idris, who was represented by the District Head of Barnawa, Alhaji Kabiru Zubairu, appealed to the people to relate peacefully with one another, irrespective of their religious inclinations to promote mutual trust and understanding.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Fitiyanul Islam in Kaduna, Sheikh Abdulkadir Zaria, has called on all Muslim faithful to adhere strictly to the teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed(SAW).
More than 200 Islamic schools and organisations converged at the Murtala Muhammed Square to commemorate the event.
