The Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said the Nigerian economy was? not beyond salvage, but only required visionary leadership.
Dangote also said? the Nigerian economy required concerted effort at development strategies to achieve a turn-around . He stated this when he received a delegation of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture(KADCCIMA ) in his office in Lagos, recently.
Alhaji Umar Yahaya, who led the delegation, said Dangote Noodles was the highest selling product at last year’s Kaduna International Trade Fair.
The visit contained in a statement signed by the Director-General, Usman? Saulawa, and made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, KADCCIMA? congratulated Dangote Group on the phenomenal growth of the company which made it the largest conglomerate in Africa, adding that the chamber appreciated the support the company had always extended to it? during the trade fair.
The visit took the chamber executives to the former head of state, Mr. Ernest Shonekan and Etisalat both in Ikoyi, Lagos. Mr. Shonekan had already accepted to be the guest speaker at the trade fair lecture with the theme:“Re-awakening Nigerian Enterprises towards Global Competitiveness.”
Meanwhile, Alhaji Dangote asserted that“the company earned more than $300 million dollars in cement business and would be commissioning a? 6 million metric tonnes cement plant and 112.5 MW power plant at Ibese in Ogun State in the coming week.”
He maintained? that? when commissioned,? the plant? would have the capacity of loading one track of 800 bags of cement per minute.
“A few years ago, when we discovered that the future of Nigerian economy was not in banks, we sold off our two banks and invested in the cement business that is what brought us to this level,” he said.
Dangote cited Brazil which had recently excelled in the global food sector as number one in the production of chicken, coffee, orange juice, soybeans, beef, sugar and ethanol, making the country to dominate the export sector.
