The National Action Coalition (NACO) on Sunday held a closed door meeting in preparation for the national dialogue scheduled to hold in Lagos on Monday.
The national dialogue is being packaged by the National Summit Group to discuss sundry national issues.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting, which was held at his residence on Victoria Island, Lagos, Dr Tunji Braithwaite, NACO’s convener, said the meeting deliberated on issues that would be presented at the national dialogue.
“This is a pre-summit caucus strategy session,” he said.
In his remarks, Chief Kalu Idika Kalu, who represented the South-East Zone at the meeting, said the national dialogue would deliberate on the way forward for Nigeria.
“There is need for dialogue; the question is not about the unity of Nigeria, but the well-being of Nigerians.
“It is about time we have a constitution that reflects the views of Nigerians, the national dialogue will be initiating a process that will ensure a prosperous country,” he said.
Dr Kunle Olajide, former Secretary-General, Yoruba Council of Elders, who represented the South-West Zone, noted that the best time for a national dialogue was now.
“The dialogue will initiate processes for a movement that will ensure a prosperous country,” he said.
Olajide said the aim of the group was to see that Nigerians were sensitised on the need to restructure the country.
On his part, Ms Ankio Briggs, who represented the South-South Zone, stressed the need for a sovereign national conference.
“We must rise up as a nation to destroy injustice and corruption,” she said.
Mr Tony Urantta, co-convener of the national summit group, said that over 50 statesmen were in Lagos to attend the dialogue.
“Our hope is that at the end of the day, our deliberations will help to move the nation forward,” ?he said.?
