The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Rivers Government for improving healthcare in the state.
Mr Kabiru Yunusa, the UNICEF South-South Zonal Logistic Consultant, said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that the organisation was satisfied with the government’s performance in the health sector.
Yunusa said that funds for programme implementation in 2011 were released by the government on time.
He also said that Rivers cooperated with UNICEF all through 2011 more than other states across the federation.
According to him, Rivers is among few states in Nigeria that have been administering new vaccines recommended by the organisation.
Yunusa however, stressed the need for the government to fix refrigerators (Cold Chain facilities) donated by UNICEF for storing vaccines.?
