Diamond Jubilee: Nigerians In The UK Extol Queen Elizabeth’s Virtues

Some Nigerians in the UK, who were honored by Queen Elizabeth II, have commended her for maintaining peaceful relations among the Commonwealth nations in her 60-year reign as monarch.

Mr Richard Taylor, a 2011 recipient of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), in an interview in London said her 60-year reign had brought peace, tolerance and cooperation within the Commonwealth.

Taylor, father of murdered Nigerian teen Damilola, who was honored for his services in the prevention of youth violence, added that her reign had also fostered unity amongst the Commonwealth of Nations.

“Her reign as Head has brought Nations together for peace, unity, tolerance and understanding. It has also tackled the needs of the developing countries and promoted economic cooperation among them”, he said.

Also, Mr Kriss Akabusi, a Member of the British Empire (MBE), who was recognized for his contribution through athletics, said the monarch over the years has shown boundless energy and selfless service to the nation and humanity.

Akabusi who was three times Olympic medalist, a World, European and Commonwealth Champion, said the queen had over the years shown “boundless energy, rare integrity and admirable diplomacy”.

He noted that the monarch had also steered Britain to remain relevant in the comity of nations.

Akabusi added: “The Queen has shown herself to be adept at walking with Kings while not forgetting to keep the common touch and she is universally accepted as a credit to the Nation that she has lead and served.”

Another recipient of an OBE honors, Ms Debbie Ariyo, described the monarch as caring and God fearing.

The queen came to the throne on Feb. 6, 1952, making her the second monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee after Queen Victoria in 1897.
