The chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje (PDP, Bende, Abia State) has joined other Nigerians to mourn the death of late elder statesman, Chief Matthew? Mbu, who he described as a fine diplomat.
Mbu, 82, died on Monday in London.
In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, the lawmaker said Nigeria has lost one of the finest diplomats ever produced.
“The death of Pa M.T. Mbu was a huge loss to us as Nigerians. We have lost one of the finest diplomats and a foremost nationalist, whose contributions would be greatly missed by all,’’ she said, adding that he was an apostle of unity who fought alongside other great nationalists for the independence of Nigeria from its colonial masters.
“As a lawyer, politician, diplomat and a permanent fixture in Nigeria’s political affairs for more than 50 years, Nigeria? and Nigerians will miss his wise counsel”, she noted.
Elendu-Ukeje, commiserated with the deceased family, the people and government of Cross River State as well as Nigeria and the diplomatic community on the demise of the diplomatic icon.
