In its mission to rebuild the education sector and provide quality services, the Ogun State government yesterday announced the scrapping of the Tai Solarin University of Education(TASUED) established by ex-Governor? Gbenga Daniel? and made it an affiliate of Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Also, the government announced the merging of the four Information and Communication Technology Centres, also established by Daniel to one institution renaming it as the Ogun State Institute of Technology, with its main campus at Igbesa in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
The?? Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr John Olusegun Odubela disclosed the state government’s decisions when he? briefed newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting which held last Thursday in Abeokuta.
Odubela said the actions of the State Government were in the overall interest of the people of Ogun State.
He said, “If you go to the university, I can even give you the percentage of those courses being offered on education, most of the courses being offered in that university are completely outside the vision and the purpose of? setting up of that university which was mainly a university of education.
“ I have the figures here which will clearly show that they’ve actually lost it. As a government, we want to ensure that what we have are clearly things that would benefit the people of Ogun State”.
